I've struggled to find relevant information to assist my situation, hence I've been following my GP's advice. I appreciate you taking the time for us all. My uneducated assessment of myself is I think it may be an absorption issue due to FODMAP/IBS type symptoms and/or potentially coeliac, even though I've been mostly avoiding gluten. I'm curious as to whether an extended water fast could improve anything. Thanks again for your public service. I'll be waiting for part 3 with bated breath!

Low ferritin is commonly seen in SIBO, which is an underlying cause of IBS in some cases. And coeliac disease is a very well-known cause of iron deficiency.

I would definitely consider an extended fast if I were in your shoes.

You're killing me with having to wait again for another part!! I've been trying to find the answers to my iron issues for a long time. I just had my second iron infusion in December and now I'm questioning whether it was a smart move. I eat a mostly wfpb diet and keep fit and active. I'm on the waitlist for a coeliac diagnostic biopsy. Hopefully I can eventually figure it out. Appreciate all your hard work Robyn, thank you 🙂

Sorry about the suspense! It's such a complex topic that I have to spend an ungodly number of hours reading 20-30 papers for each instalment. It's shocking to me that so much is known about the nitty gritty of iron metabolism, and yet so little is known about why it frequently goes awry in people who are eating sufficient iron, not losing excessive iron, and not ill in some obvious way.
