Sorry to fill your inbox up with all this mask hoo-hah, but I couldn’t resist sharing this study, Post COVID-19, still wear a face mask? Self-perceived facial attractiveness reduces mask-wearing intention, which was published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology.
It’s worth a read if you have a spare 15 minutes and like to read how psychologists design studies, but I’ll cut to the chase: people who perceive themselves to be facially attractive want to stop covering their lovely visages with a stupid, useless, ugly, dirty piece of cloth, while people who don’t think they have a snowball’s chance in hell of coming 55th place in a beauty contest want to keep covering up their ugly mugs.
Here’s the money quote from the study:
“Our results consistently demonstrated that self-perceived unattractive individuals were more willing to wear a mask, as they believed it would benefit their attractiveness.”
I don’t think for one moment that this fully explains the religious devotion to mask-wearing in certain segments of society, but hey, it was good for a laugh, at least.
Know someone really ugly who wants to keep wearing a mask? Know someone beautiful who wants to keep wearing a mask? You know what to do:
Thanks for the summary. I enjoyed the laugh. You’ve saved us all 15 mins.
Most of the wearers of mask I see recently are more plain than un attractive.
But yeah, no one "attractive" I have seen in public is wearing a mask.
