Help defend free speech in Australia
If the Criminal Code (Serious Vilification and Hate Crimes) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2023 passes, our fundamental right to express our opinions freely will be terminated.
The Queensland Labor government is pushing to criminalise the expression of opinions deemed ‘offensive’ on social media, with penalties of up to three years in jail.
This means that I could be sent to prison for writing the article that I sent on earlier today. You, or people you know, could be arrested for posting memes that satirise gender ideology on Facebook, or uploading a video to Twitter or Tiktok in which you state that a person with a penis cannot be a woman.
Because the draft law covers online commentary, it could apply to anyone in Australia, not just Queensland.
You can read the draft legislation here. If you object to your speech being muzzled, sign the petition calling on members of the Queensland parliament to vote against the bill here.
Our freedom to hold, discuss and express opinions which differ from the ideologies pushed by our unrepresentative leaders is under attack, all over the world. I for one will not be silenced by them.
You'll have plenty of company Robyn & anyone who's on the other side isn't worth a crumpet.
Does this apply only to Queensland at the moment? If so and if they push it through successfully I should think the Federal Government will soon follow.
